The federal authority to replace stolen SNAP benefits expired on December 20, 2024. As a result, any benefits stolen on or after December 21, 2024, are no longer eligible for replacement using federal funds. If your benefits were stolen before that date, you should contact your state agency to report the theft.
For retroactive claims, if you had previously reported a theft, the state will contact you directly. You then have 30 calendar days from the date of contact to submit a claim. Additionally, once a public notice is issued, households have 30 days from that notice to file a retroactive claim. Regular claims must be submitted within 30 days of discovering the theft.
Claims can be submitted by mail, fax, phone, or in person at your local office. Some counties also accept submissions via email or online. The state will validate claims within 30 business days. Once approved, replacement benefits are issued within another 30 business days. Card replacement is required before benefits can be accessed.
