Additional Information
SNAP benefits stolen on or after December 21, 2024, are no longer eligible for replacement under federal law, as the statutory authority expired on December 20, 2024. However, if your benefits were stolen prior to this date, you may still be able to submit a claim for reimbursement.
To begin the process, contact your state agency immediately to report the theft. Households have 90 calendar days from the state’s plan start date (September 23, 2024) to file a retroactive claim. For ongoing thefts, regular claims must be submitted within 60 days of discovery. Claims can be submitted by mail, phone, email, drop-box, or in person at local offices.
Once a claim is submitted, the state will validate it within 10 calendar days. If approved, replacement benefits will be issued within 10 calendar days of the claim submission date. Make sure to request a new EBT card to protect against future theft.
