The federal authority to replace stolen SNAP benefits expired on December 20, 2024. As a result, any SNAP benefits stolen on or after December 21, 2024, cannot be replaced using federal funds. If you experienced theft before that date, contact your state agency right away to report the loss and begin the claims process.
For retroactive claims, households had 90 calendar days from September 5, 2023—the date the state plan began—to report the theft and an additional 10 days to submit the claim form. For regular claims, theft must be reported within 30 days of discovery. Claims and reports can be submitted by mail, fax, online, or in person at local offices. Once submitted, the state has 10 calendar days to validate the claim. If approved, replacement benefits will be issued within 10 calendar days of approval. A new card must also be issued to access these benefits.
