Additional Information

The authority to replace stolen SNAP benefits using federal funds expired on December 20, 2024. This means that any benefits stolen on or after December 21, 2024, are no longer eligible for replacement through federal assistance. If your SNAP benefits are stolen, you should report the theft to your state agency as soon as possible.

Households had 30 days from the start of their state’s replacement plan (May 30, 2023) to submit retroactive claims. For ongoing cases, regular claims must be submitted within 30 days of discovering the theft. You can report theft by phone or in person at a local office, and submit claims via mail, fax, online, or in person. Once submitted, the state has 10 days to review and validate your claim. If approved, replacement benefits are issued using the standard process for lost or damaged benefits. To access your benefits, you must either re-PIN or replace your card—replacing it is recommended.
